Welcome
Some time ago, working for the organization of an exhibition, I have read a book written by Giorgio Soavi. The book, published by Garzanti in 1986, is titled Il quadro che mi manca (The painting that I lack). Soavi makes the refined Reviews of books, little known to the general public, that he appreciated at the contrary by profession and passion. In that book there is a long series of works by artists more or less well-known at that time, such as Giacometti, Balsamo, Balthus, Guttuso, De Chirico, Picasso, Dali, Sotterland but Ferroni, Gnoli, Velly, Vallorz, Mattioli, Caruso, Pericoli, Guccione, Cremonini, Costantini and others … those one were the works that he was missing and that he would have liked to expand his already extensive collection of art.
Proceeding in the reading, I thought that what I lack is a Place where you can admire all of these rare works, immersed in a world of fabulous, discovering contemporary figurative artists. Artists of various nationalities, dedicated to differnt genres, from the surreal to the real, through the metaphysical, the fantastic e the dream world. Artists using different techniques: painting, sculpture, watercolors, etchings, working with wood or bronze … Artists who perhaps do not even know one another, lone wolves, united by a Great Passion and the search in the ancient techniques of the Old Masters.
A physical place so described does not exist! Here, I thought it would be great to achieve it … at least virtually. And so I have decided to create a virtual gallery of my dreams, the gallery that I like to visit one day, the gallery that I want (lagalleriachevorrei). Now, if you like it, lagalleriachevorrei will become yours!
There are many artists, with their worlds, that I would like to include in this gallery, some I had the good fortune to know, others I like or I’d like to know. Therefore start with you, this trip, I hope that long, enjoyable and profitable.
A TRIBUTE
The site aims to be a tribute to all those artists who every day give us wonderful works.
It wants to be a gift for the patrons (but still they exist?), Users, art enthusiasts, collectors, large and small, but above all a gift for those who said that they do not understood about art.
Leave your messages, write your thoughts, share your feelings. We will be happy to share them with you!
A dedication
I like to dedicate the site to two special people, missing both of last year, which had much in common and have shared that much. I dedicate this site to Giorgio Soavi and Tiziano Forni, the first famous art critic and the second gallery of the highest repute, both cornerstones of the world of contemporary visual arts.
Acknowledgments
I would like to thank all those artists, gallery owners, directors of museums, which have helped to provide the material that you see published on the site, but a special thanks I would reserve for those who helped me in building this path: the graphic of the site Lorenzo Norfini, who has managed to turn in pictures of my crazy ideas, the web-master, Andrea Tasso, who developed a site for construction is not easy and my friend Michaela Lechner Bindi, which helps me in translation in German.
GOOD VISIT
And now I just have to wish you a GOOD VISIT. I would like to beginn the fashion of SLOW NAVIGATION. If you are in a hurry, take note of the site and come back with a little more calm (rare luxury, but irrinumciabile our days). Take your time, sit comfortably in front of the computer, perhaps sipping a cup of tea or enjoy a good cioccalatino and start to navigate slowly. See very careful the artists, their lives, their worlds, but especially on what more important they have to tell. You could find writings, pictures, photos, videos, have fun and come back several times to visit, finding always new and updated things.
Happy surfing to all. Rosaria Fabrizio, May 2009
